From your favourite animal companion to the flowers in your vase that light up your room, sometimes the small things in life are the ones that make the biggest impact.
For example, when you need a break, go ahead and take a well deserved nap! When you are well rested, you are much more capable to grow beyond your boundaries and bloom to your full potential.
Let's welcome our seventh Artist Collaboration of the year with Livia Fălcaru who has designed two lovely covers for us, Cat Nap and Flowerpiece.
Read on to learn more about the artist, her thoughts on art and more—
Hi Livia, it’s very nice to have you! Let’s start with a little self-introduction.
Hi there and thanks for having me! I’m an illustrator, visual artist and AR creator currently living and working in Bucharest, Romania.
My illustrations usually revolve around my daily life, personal experiences as a woman and the emotions we all feel.
I would describe my work as being playful and constantly evolving.
These cover designs incite a quaint comfort that is pleasant to look at. What were some of your thoughts when creating them?
This is exactly what I wanted to transmit with these works! :) The cover with the cat is actually one of my cats: Ida.
And the cover with the flower vase is pretty much explained by my love for plants and nature.
I wanted to create my own kind of plants and vases and this is how it turned out.
What do you hope that our customers would feel from buying these cover designs?
I actually want these notebooks/planners to be that nice object you have on your desk that inspires you everyday to write your thoughts, make plans or sketch your ideas.
We just love the way your art looks! How would you say your style has evolved throughout the years?
Thank you so much! I would say that it grew and evolved at the same pace as I did as a person.
I’m constantly trying to improve and find a good balance in my life and my visual style kind of tagged along.
It took me many years of experiment and constant work to get to the way it is today.
We notice you use the colour green quite often. What does it capture in your art?
I just feel that certain shades of green often represent my mood.
It’s lively, close to nature, grounded but also playful. I wouldn’t know to explain better than this.
A lot of the times I choose colors very instinctually in my work.
As a multidisciplinary artist, is there another medium you have not tried but are waiting to explore?
I would really love to dab more into sculpture. I often visualise some shapes in my head that would be perfect as sculptures.
I’m just waiting for a more quiet time to start exploring this path as well.
Was there a particular moment in your life when you knew being an artist was your calling?
I kind of always knew that this would be the thing I’ll be the best at. I used to draw a lot since I was very little and I was always that kid who drew very well in her class.
My mom is very talented but she never pursued this career so instead she was very supportive with me making art and having a career in this domain.
Could you share with us your sources of inspiration that might surprise us?
My main source of inspiration is actually my daily life and personal experiences.
I have a very rich and vivid imagination and I usually get these “visions” of finished illustrations in my head and I just proceed to make them.
For me art is very instinctual and spontaneous. I’m also following a lot of artists on Instagram that I like but I couldn’t point exactly certain people.
There are so many talented people on IG, you just have to have the patience to find them!
Do you have any words of wisdom for aspiring artists out there?
Start early, start now! (can’t stress this enough) There will never be the perfect time to start your career as an artist. Jump right in and see what happens.
Always promote yourself and your work, even when you are uncertain of your work. There will always be people who will appreciate your work.
Try to draw something everyday, it doesn’t have to be something good or finished. It will all add up in the long run.
Trivia question! If you could be an animal of any colour, what would you be and why?
Good question! I’d love to be a giant black and white striped bird. It’s always been my dream to be able to fly!
