We all have our ups and downs in life that demand our undivided attention. In fact, there are times when life gets so busy, that you end up cruising through life not really living at all!

Hence, it’s important to learn how to balance a lifestyle that includes not only work and play, but a reasonable amount of downtime.

It’s better to know what to do when life gets busy instead of constantly trying to wait out life for it to slow down.

Read on for a seven step tutorial on developing a peaceful routine or watch the video for a visual and auditory experience.

We think if you develop a practical routine, it may be the save you need.

Step 1

Make it a Priority

It’s hard to know what you need until you write them out and arrange them by their urgency and importance.

Take a breather, realign your thoughts, and make sure the next time you create a schedule, make it so that there is time set aside to recharge and find your own peace.

It’s time to take better care of yourself.

Step 2

Find your morning pick-me-up

What we do when we wake up in the morning may affect you for the rest of your day. So make sure to kickstart your morning with activities like listening to a song, stretching, reading a page out your book, or making that coffee that just hits the spot.

It’s important to start your day off with peaceful intention!

Step 3

Declutter Your Space

There’s a saying that a messy home reflects your mental space. In fact, a messy home might lead to even more mental strain.

So start developing a habit of decluttering your physical space to give yourself more breathing room to think and feel freely. When cleaning, consider:

• Do I need this?

• When was the last time I used this item?

• Is there someone who may need it more than I do?

Step 4

Self-Reflection

“When it comes to life the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.”

- G.K. Chesterton

When you reflect on your thoughts and actions, you can come to understand yourself differently. By penning down your thoughts, you can take a look at yourself from a different perspective.

Try listing 5 to 10 things you’re grateful for, or even start journaling. Think about things like:

• Have I been entertaining any negative thoughts or emotions?

• What are a few practical steps I can take to overcome this challenge I’ve been having?

• Is there something I’ve put on the shelf that I should get back to?

Step 5

Build a Commonplace Book

A commonplace is similar to an idea journal, a curated depository if you will. Anything from inspiring quotes, ideas, conversations, inspirational nuggets or song lyrics could go in there.

Think of it as a space to reference, recollect your thoughts and stay inspired. It can be a simple list or a creative playground! It’s your call.

Step 6

Get Creative

When things get rough, it’s time to get creative! Start that project or pick up a new skill. Things like writing, cooking, decorating, and painting can all be a fun and therapeutic way to find peace.

Just remember to not let it turn into a competition of who can create the best work and focus on the joy and self-expression it brings.

Step 7

Get a Goodnight’s Sleep

Having a healthy sleeping schedule can change everything from your physical state to your mental and emotional well-being. So make sure to track your sleeping hours to make sure it’s enough!
